Once a child starts cruising along furniture, the same edges they used for balance yesterday become the edges they bump into today. Look for closed-cell foam that compresses under pressure rather than thin rubber that simply covers a corner. Corner protectors are not a substitute for furniture anchors. A bookshelf or dresser that can tip when climbed is a separate, more serious concern that requires anchor straps. They also will not help with sharp metal edges on file cabinets or with glass-topped tables, where the surface itself — not just the corner — is the hazard.
